نیشنل ہیرالڈ کا معاملہ اس وقت سامنے آیا جب بی جے پی کے سابق ایم پی سبرامنیم سوامی نے دہلی ہائی کورٹ میں سونیا گاندھی اور راہول گاندھی پر زمینوں پر قبضے اور ہزاروں کروڑ روپے کے فنڈز کے غلط استعمال کا الزام لگاتے ہوئے مقدمہ دائر کیا۔
انہوں نے الزام لگایا کہ گاندھیوں نے ایک پبلک لمیٹڈ کمپنی – اے جے ایل – کو ایک پرائیویٹ فرم – ینگ انڈیا لمیٹڈ – کے ذریعے حاصل کیا تھا جس کے راہل گاندھی ڈائریکٹر تھے۔
اے جے ایل کے بہت سے شیئر ہولڈرز بشمول سابق وزیر قانون شانتی بھوشن اور الہ آباد اور مدراس ہائی کورٹس کے سابق چیف جسٹس مارکنڈے کاٹجو نے کہا کہ جب YIL نے اس پر کنٹرول حاصل کیا تو انہیں کوئی نوٹس نہیں دیا گیا۔ ان کا کہنا تھا کہ ان کے والد کے پاس موجود حصص 2010 میں ان کی رضامندی کے بغیر اے جے ایل کو منتقل کیے گئے تھے۔
