گذشتہ کئی سالوں سے پوری دنیا میں بحث جاری ہے کہ اسلام یقین کا نام ہے یا تہذیب کا ، اہل مغرب اور مغربی تہذیب سے متاثر افراد نے اسلام کو یقین کا نام دینا شروع کردیا ہے ، جس کا مطلب یہ ہوتا ہے کہ جس طرح دیگر مذاہب حقیقت سے پڑے ہٹ کر صرف اعتقاد پر قائم ہے،اسی طرح اسلام بھی صرف اعتقاد پر قائم کرنے کےلئے تولے ہوئے ہیں ، جب کہ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے فرمودات سے معلوم ہوتا ہے کہ اسلام اعتقاد و عمل یعنی تہذیب دونوں کا نام ہے، ایک پکا مسلمان ہونے کےلئے جہاں پختہ اعتقاد کی ضرورت ہے، وہیں کردار بھی اسلامی ہونا چاہئے ، یہی وجہ ہے کہ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ایک موقع پر اپنی بعثت کامقصد مکارم اخلاق کو کرار دیتے ہوئے کہا : میری بعثت کا مقصد لوگوں کو مکار اخلاق سیکھانا ہے۔ایک دوسرے موقع پر فرمایا گیا میں تمہارے لئے معلم بنا کر بھیجا گیا ہوں، قران کریم کی پہلی سورت سورہ فاتحہ میں فرمایا گیا ہے : ترجمہ مجھے سیدھا راستہ دیکھا، ان لوگوں کا راستہ دیکھا جن پر تیرا انعام ہوا ہے۔اسی طرح قرآن کریم کی دوسری سورت سورہ بقرہ میں اللہ تبارک و تعالیٰ نے اعتقاد اور عمل دونوں کو ایک ساتھ ذکر کرتے ہوئے فرمایا:یہ ایک اایسیکتاب ہے جس میں شک کی کوئی گنجائش نہیں ، یہ ہدایت ہے ان تقوی والوں کےلئے جو کہ غیب پر ایمان رکھتے ہیں،نماز قائم کرتے ہیں اور جوکچھ انہیںرزق دیا گیا ہے اس میں سے خرچ کرتے ہیں، قرآن کریم کی اس آیت سے بالکل واضح ہو جاتا ہے کہ اسلام صرف یقین کا نام نہیں ہے بلکہ اس میں عمل کو بھی دخل ہے، دوسرے لفظ میں ہم یہ کہہ سکتے ہیں کہ اسلام یقین اور تہذیت دونوں کا نام ہے۔آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم مسجد میں جہاں امامت کا فریضہ انجاد دیا کرتے تھے، وہیں ملکی امور کے متعلق بھی تبادلہ خیال کرتے تھے، صحابہ کرام کی ایک جماعت جو کہ ہمہ تن تعلیم میں مصروف ہوتی تھی ، جب کہ دوسری ایک جماعت ایسی تھی جو کہ ہر وقت جہاد میں مصروف رہتی تھی، وہیں صحابہ کرام میںکچھ افراد بیرونی ممالک میں تجارت کےلئے سفر بھی کیا کرتے تھے، صحابہ کرام کی ایک جماعت اسی بھی تھی جو کہ امور سلطنت میں مصروف رہتی تھی۔ہر ایک معاملہ کو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم مسجد میں بیٹھ کر حل کیا کرتے تھے۔فقہ میں جہاں کتاب الصلواة کا تذکرہ ہے ہیں ، وہیں آداب قاضی کا تذکرہ ، خرید و فروخت کرنے کے تمام طریقے بھی بیان کئے گئے ہیں جس سے اندازہ ہوتا ہے کہ اسلام صرف یقین کا نام نہیں ہے بلکہ اسلام یقین سے ساتھ ایک مستقل تہذیت بھی ہے۔
1857کی جنگ آزادی کی ناکامی کے بعد انگریزوں نے مسلم علمائ کو بے ذریغ قتل کرنا شروع کردیا ، جس سے اس وقت کے علمائے کرام کو خدشتہ لاحق ہو گیا کہ اگر اسی طرح علمائ قتل کئے جاتے رہے تو ایک وقت ایسا آئے گا کہ ہندستان میں اسلام کا کوئی نام لینے والا بھی نہیں رہے گا، اس خیر مقصد کی بنائ پر اس وقت کے علمائے کرام نے مدارس کے قیام پر توجہ دی اور لوگوں کو زیادہ سے زیادہ دینی تعلیم سے روشنا ش کرنا شروع کردیا ،جس کا خاطر خواہ نتیجہ نکلا۔لیکن سوئے اتفاق نصف صدی کے بعد مسلمانوں کے اندر رحبانیت کاغلبہ ہونا شروع ہو گیا۔مسلم علمائے کرام نے اپنے آپ کو مسجد و مدرسہ تک ہی محدود کر لیا اور لوگوں کے سامنے سب سے زیادہ مدرسہ کی اہمیت کو ہی اجاگر کرنا شروع کردیا۔جس کا نتیجہ یہ نکلا کہ عام لوگوں کو ذہن میں یہ بات بالکل بیٹھ گئی کہ مولوی کا مطلب مسجد اور مدرسہ ، شعبہ ہائے زندگی کے تمام فلڈ بالکل خالی ہو گئے ، اس میں عام لوگوں کی رہنمائی کرنے والا کوئی نہیں رہا، لوگوں کا تیزی سے رجحان مورڈن بزنس کی جانب بڑھنے لگا ، اور لوگ مغرب سے قریب سے قریب تر ہوتے چلے گئے۔مغربی نظریہ کہ اسلام محض یقین کا نام ہے اسے جلا مل نا شروع ہو گیا۔موجودہ دور کے علمائے کرام پر ذمہ داری عائد ہوتی ہے کہ وہ فورا ہر فیلڈ میں علمائے کرام کو لانے کی کوشش کریں تاکہ لوگوں کو سمجھ میں آجائے کہ اسلام محض یقین نہیں بالکہ یقین کے ساتھ ایک مکمل تہذیب کا نام ہے۔
